iFixit iPod Touch Teardown

Those guys from iFixit ripped apart the renovated iPod Touch and with this we came up with new information about its hardware:

The main differences from the iPhone 4 released in April, the screen is worse. Although it is a Retinal Display with 960x640 pixels, iPhone owns an IPS panel, while the iPod is TN, lower quality and worse viewing angles. In addition, the memory of the iPod touch has half the RAM than the iPhone 4: 256MB specifically like the IPAD. Whereas it will able to handle fewer open open simultaneously.

The battery is also smaller than the iPhone. However, because iOS energy management makes the device quite efficient offering a good autonomy. The iPhone battery is 5.25 Wh while the iPod is 3.44 Wh. Remember, the iPod touch does not need 3G, so even if the battery is smaller than the iPhone, autonomy in both are very similar.

The front glass is glued to the screen, thus decreasing the thickness of the device, like the iPhone 4. The speaker now appears in the lower left, thus enabling better sound quality.

What is most disappointing is that Apple has deceived us. Even though through Apple's website were suspicions that iPod touch includes vibrate when calling for FaceTime, iFixit confirms that what was believed to be the engine of vibration is a simple microphone. The iPod touch has no engine vibration in your hardware configuration.

Regarding the disassembly iFixit confess that the iPod touch was easier to remove. And for the first time, the minijack for headphones is not soldered to the motherboard.

Once again the technical characteristics:

Processor: Apple A4 1GHz (same as iPhone 4 and iPad)
Memory: 256 MB SOC embebed (iPhone 4/2 = iPad)
Dimension: 111x58x7.2 millimeters.
Capacity: 8, 32 & 64 GB (does it worth the 8 GB model??)
Wireless: 802.11 b/g/n; bluetooth 2.1
Display: 3.5 inch Multi Touch with 960x640-pixel resolution, TN Display.
Video: 720p with Back camera and VGA in front camera for FaceTime (without vibrate motor).
Sensors: Gyrometer, accelerometer and ambient light.
Battery: 3.44 Wh.

So, does it worth the buy??
